"Open Your Eyes says:
October 17, 2009 at 1:14 pm. What does being patriotic have to do with anything? Just cause you believe your country is great, does not mean that it’s leader is instantly right." ---- Those are wide generalizations for someone who has never been to the United States and has no vested interest in being a part of our country. There are many of us in the United States who do not believe our "leader" is instantly right. Many who do care about what is going on in their country are routinely critical of the political power elites in the United States.

"I’ve seen people criticising and mocking foreigners because of their English yet could you speak their language, I think not." --- What foreigners? Americans? Americans speak many languages. What language are you referring to?

"I grew up in a Christian society, though I do not believe myself, and personally I think the world would be a much better place if people stopped taking things so damned literally." --- What do you mean by literally? This word is often used and misused to express an emotion.

"To them your cultures look strange too, there’s a high chance that your language that they have put in the effort to learn isn’t their native tongue. I’ve seen people criticising and mocking foreigners because of their English yet could you speak their language, I think not." --- Intolerance of people as a result of their skin color, language, and ethnic origin is a constant issue in the United States. Who is doing the mocking? English speakers mocking those who do not have a good command of the English language, or native speakers mocking foreigners whos native language is English?

"Honestly just because they’re from another religion, another place doesn’t mean they are evil, different or should be excluded." - Religion is a constant source or rather symptom of conflict around the world.

"Who cares that he cheated on his wife? Whoop-de-doo. I’m sure other Presidents and millions of others worldwide have done the same thing. Just because you don’t know it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen." --- Media attention and political opposition to the Clintons took advantage of his infidelity. It was a media circus. Those who took it seriously were already opposed to Clinton for other reasons. The Clinton scandal was used as a scapegoat by those who opposed him and his party. The hypocrisy was abundant.

"Now as your “news” channels spit out their daily verses of hate and fear, while proclaiming as to how you are being saved, think about what they’re not telling you, because believe me, there’s plenty of it." --- Believe you to tell us what the American media is not disclosing? A person who has no interest in America ( Canada, North America, Caribbean, South America ) and has never been to the United States.

"And of those who signed up for he army beforehand. Those thinking they were going to fight people who were actually enemies who had actually done “evil things”. It is what a soldier is expected to do in times of war. No matter who is wrong. It is what Singapore's military would be expected to do.

"(As a side note try watching Micheal Moore’s film “Bowling for Columbine”, once again it is extremely biased and still question it but it may help you think about things in other ways)" -- Ah Micheal Moore. He's made quite a fortune making films and books about the very aspects of US society he is most critical about.

"Yes they enlisted themselves but I suspect many would have done differently had they know what was, and is, actually going on there. (Try Faisal Sarker’s post)" --- Many soldiers did double duty in IRAQ and Afghanistan. The majority under orders. That was their primary purpose. To fight if necessary and under orders. Many were unprepared for what was to come and I doubt nothing could have prepared them. Many soldiers have returned to face social, psychological, and financial problems. There are/were soldiers who enlisted or joined as officers to serve for what they believed was a good cause.

"To them your cultures look strange too, there’s a high chance that your language that they have put in the effort to learn isn’t their native tongue. "

-- America is a geographical area that spans many cultures and languages. When you talk about Americas, are you referring to "white" English speaking people in the US. Even among "white" English speaking Americans, there are a variety of cultures. ( Italian, Irish, Dutch, German, French, British, South African, Swedish, ext.. ). If our cultures look strange, perhaps it is they who should open their minds and understand our english speaking cultures, instead of mocking them.

"If you did lose a family member in 9/11 then I am sorry for you, but that does not give you the right to berate anyone who thinks differently. The whole 9/11 incident has been blown completely out of proportion." -- The
"whole 9/11 incident", was a reality. The reason it was a reality is because people lost their lives and loved ones on that date. Also, we call the concept of berating anyone freedom of speech. A concept that is also recognized outside of the US. Since you are berating as well, I encourage you to continue exploring the concept.

"Saying that “nobody seems to have a problem with World War II” is just ignorant and unjustified. Think of those who lost their entire families in the Holocaust. Think of those who lost everything do to the American Hiroshima & Nagasaki bombings. There is still a huge fight going on to keep the Holocaust being taught at schools. If you did lose a family member in 9/11 then I am sorry for you," ----- The loss of life as a result of the holocaust is well known in the US. Many in the US have lost family and friends to World War 2. Invading Japan without the bombings would have cost even more lives on both fronts.

"Now to anyone affected by these attacks I’m sorry but we really need to move on. This happened more than 7 years ago now and there are still many atrociousities happening worldwide everyday." --- Many families have been directly affected emotionally, socially, and financially as a result of 9/11, Iraq, Afghanistan, Lebanon, and other military occurrences. It is a challenge for American families of soldiers and members of middle eastern cultures to simply move on. There is still fighting going on in the middle east. Americans are experiencing economic and social consequences as a result of the conflicts in the middle east. 9/11 was a bridge to what was, unfortunately, continued conflict.

"The reality is that that is what terrorism is all about, making people feel unsafe, and doubting their leaders, death is merely a byproduct of that (do not get me started on this)" -- I couldn't agree more. Bush initially enjoyed high approval ratings ( based on Gallup, AP, WSJ ) after 9/11 for some time. In his second term, Bush's approval ratings went down like a roller coaster.

"stop believing what you hear and see, start thinking for yourself and make your own decisions. Just because some is different, they are not strange. Just because someone is Muslim, they are not necessarily a terrorism ( although watching the news you wouldn’t think so)." --- It would be naive to assume that Muslim terrorists do not exist. I would ask you to open your mind. To weigh and consider various perspectives about the world, to learn about ( albeit unpopular ) American view points as well.

"I am 15 years old and live in Singapore, one of the very much multicultural city, where ex-pat’s like me aren’t the majority. Living in a place like this opens your eyes, just like I hope this opens yours." --- There are many many places in the United States that are multicultural. There is also racism that accompanies this multiculturalism. The question is tolerance.

You posted that you have never been to and never will go to America ( What part of America - remember it's almost half the planet ). I assume you are talking about the United States. Well that is your choice. To be blunt, I believe that you are being intolerant and closed minded. Your eyes and ears have a lot of exploring to do. There is a world beyond Singapore and I encourage you to visit the United States, Canada, and other parts of America in the future.

Alrighttttt. So. I love the comment above me, and I think that this whole religious argument should be left alone to rot like cheese in a mouse trap.

Different religious might seem different to different people because they were raised differently.

= UNIQUE.
E pluibus unum?! Come on, America, change the symbol on the coins, cause some people posting comments on this site are making it look bad.

Now, I could sit on here and argue for hours about God, religion, coutries, Bush, President Obama, and so on.

But I won't because I know that'll make me look like I have no life and am on the retarded debate team like some of you on here - and I could also say names, but I'll keep it to myself because I grew up with:

IF YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING NICE, DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL.

I'm the oldest from my siblings, I've been scolded a lot. (Referring to the sentece above...)

So my point here is just STOP.

Stop arguing! Seriously.
If another comment gets posted after this and it's negative and uneducated (haha, kinda like a president I know who's on this website-not saying names :), I will just give up, because I'm not going to bother.

"I am not a preacher nor a teacher shall I now sit on the football bleachers."

                                    Pe☮ce • L♥ve • H☺ppiness

And one more thing: Never judge a religion by its people.
Hope some of you learned something that actually stayed in your wax-filled ears, and was not shaken out by songs on your little silver iPod.

[Be a fruitloop, not a cheerio] Speak out for yourself!
Don't go with the flow, because you might just be in a waterfall of trouble.
Be the one thin current of water that pushes away from the mess.
I like to type, what can I say? :)
Maybe I'm an author, maybe I'm a ghost.
Happy early halloween!

*For the sake of the actual intellectuals out there, don't type something idiotic that might make others lose brain cells.

Ok, this was driving me crazy so here we go, hopefully some of you will read this and start thinking.

Firstly, yes, logically Christians and Muslims worship the same god, the God of Abraham. Muslims trace their heritage back through Israel, Christians back through Isaac, if someone wants to challenge this feel free but the connection is obvious. I grew up in a Christian society, though I do not believe myself, and personally I think the world would be a much better place if people stopped taking things so damned literally. Open your eyes people. Honestly just because they're from another religion, another place doesn't mean they are evil, different or should be excluded. To them your cultures look strange too, there's a high chance that your language that they have put in the effort to learn isn't their native tongue. I've seen people criticising and mocking foreigners because of their English yet could you speak their language, I think not.

Now "Fair and Balanced" up their really irks me so lest have a look at what he's got to say.

1. What does being patriotic have to do with anything? Just cause you believe your country is great, does not mean that it's leader is instantly right. Socrates himself said that "patriotism does not require one to agree with everything that his country does and would actually promote analytical questioning in a quest to make the country the best it possibly can be."

2. Who cares that he cheated on his wife? Whoop-de-doo. I'm sure other Presidents and millions of others worldwide have done the same thing. Just because you don't know it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

3. Who cares what Clinton thought once again? Wow, he was (maybe) wrong for once. Obviously as he made one mistake he can no longer be classified as a good president.

4. "You are just another pliant fool who goes with the flow." I was tempted to not even dignify this with a response but hey, why not. Now I confess that I don't live in America, never have, never will. It really holds no great love for me. Now as your "news" channels spit out their daily verses of hate and fear, while proclaiming as to how you are being saved, think about what they're not telling you, because believe me, there's plenty of it. I'm not claiming that I know everything but it may be good that you stop believing what you hear or read as truth and start to question what is going on. You may find something interesting. (As a side note try watching Micheal Moore's film "Bowling for Columbine", once again it is extremely biased and still question it but it may help you think about things in other ways)

5. And of those who signed up for he army beforehand. Those thinking they were going to fight people who were actually enemies who had actually done "evil things". And what about those who knew no better than to accept the "facts" and "truths" being thrown at them and attempt to get a better idea of what's going on. Society doesn't exactly discourage men going off to war does it? Yes they enlisted themselves but I suspect many would have done differently had they know what was, and is, actually going on there. (Try Faisal Sarker's post)

6. Once again, completely irrelevant. Saying that "nobody seems to have a problem with World War II" is just ignorant and unjustified. Think of those who lost their entire families in the Holocaust. Think of those who lost everything do to the American Hiroshima & Nagasaki bombings. There is still a huge fight going on to keep the Holocaust being taught at schools. If you did lose a family member in 9/11 then I am sorry for you, but that does not give you the right to berate anyone who thinks differently. The whole 9/11 incident has been blown completely out of proportion. For example, recently a trailer for a game called Modern Warfare 2 was released. In this trailer it depicted and bombed and desolate Washington City. Straight away, outrage was sparked as people moved to shout about how they shouldn't have touched such a sacred and holy event (yes those were the words), and almost accusing them of "trivialising" the whole event. All because one game tried to do something different.

Now to anyone affected by these attacks I'm sorry but we really need to move on. This happened more than 7 years ago now and there are still many atrociousities happening worldwide everyday. Now whoever planned and executed those attacks did wrong by my book. As far as we know it was a preemptive attack that served its purpose well, to strike fear into the hearts of people worldwide. The reality is that that is what terrorism is all about, making people feel unsafe, and doubting their leaders, death is merely a byproduct of that (do not get me started on this). You claim that George Bush brought it back together. Well what exactly did he do? 15 minutes after the incident was broadcasted on public tv (Officials would have known before then) he was having his photo taken with some 2nd Graders, is this really a man who worked so hard to pull it back together and we should all praise him for his efforts?

Now I'll leave it there but my message is simple; stop believing what you hear and see, start thinking for yourself and make your own decisions. Just because some is different, they are not strange. Just because someone is Muslim, they are not necessarily a terrorism ( although watching the news you wouldn't think so). What you think of someone is your own decision to make, but remember who controls what (particularly the media), and what's not being told. For the record, I am 15 years old and live in Singapore, one of the very much multicultural city, where ex-pat's like me aren't the majority. Living in a place like this opens your eyes, just like I hope this opens yours.

I grew up in a Christian society, though I do not believe myself, and personally I think the world would be a much better place if people stopped taking things so damned literally. Open your eyes people. Honestly just because they’re from another religion, another place doesn’t mean they are evil, different or should be excluded. To them your cultures look strange too, there’s a high chance that your language that they have put in the effort to learn isn’t their native tongue. I’ve seen people criticising and mocking foreigners because of their English yet could you speak their language, I think not.

Now “Fair and Balanced” up their really irks me so lest have a look at what he’s got to say.

1. What does being patriotic have to do with anything? Just cause you believe your country is great, does not mean that it’s leader is instantly right. Socrates himself said that “patriotism does not require one to agree with everything that his country does and would actually promote analytical questioning in a quest to make the country the best it possibly can be.”

2. Who cares that he cheated on his wife? Whoop-de-doo. I’m sure other Presidents and millions of others worldwide have done the same thing. Just because you don’t know it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

3. Who cares what Clinton thought once again? Wow, he was (maybe) wrong for once. Obviously as he made one mistake he can no longer be classified as a good president.

4. “You are just another pliant fool who goes with the flow.” I was tempted to not even dignify this with a response but hey, why not. Now I confess that I don’t live in America, never have, never will. It really holds no great love for me. Now as your “news” channels spit out their daily verses of hate and fear, while proclaiming as to how you are being saved, think about what they’re not telling you, because believe me, there’s plenty of it. I’m not claiming that I know everything but it may be good that you stop believing what you hear or read as truth and start to question what is going on. You may find something interesting. (As a side note try watching Micheal Moore’s film “Bowling for Columbine”, once again it is extremely biased and still question it but it may help you think about things in other ways)

5. And of those who signed up for he army beforehand. Those thinking they were going to fight people who were actually enemies who had actually done “evil things”. And what about those who knew no better than to accept the “facts” and “truths” being thrown at them and attempt to get a better idea of what’s going on. Society doesn’t exactly discourage men going off to war does it? Yes they enlisted themselves but I suspect many would have done differently had they know what was, and is, actually going on there. (Try Faisal Sarker’s post)

6. Once again, completely irrelevant. Saying that “nobody seems to have a problem with World War II” is just ignorant and unjustified. Straight away, outrage was sparked as people moved to shout about how they shouldn’t have touched such a sacred and holy event (yes those were the words), and almost accusing them of “trivialising” the whole event. All because one game tried to do something different.

Now to anyone affected by these attacks I’m sorry but we really need to move on.

Now I’ll leave it there but my message is simple; stop believing what you hear and see, start thinking for yourself and make your own decisions. Just because some is different, they are not strange. Just because someone is Muslim, they are not necessarily a terrorism ( although watching the news you wouldn’t think so). What you think of someone is your own decision to make, but remember who controls what (particularly the media), and what’s not being told. For the record, I am 15 years old and live in Singapore, one of the very much multicultural city, where ex-pat’s like me aren’t the majority. Living in a place like this opens your eyes, just like I hope this opens yours.

Why is it that half of the posts on this site are coming from uneducated, unpatriotic oafs? For any of you who are daring to defend Clinton, are you even aware that he cheated on his wife while he was in office? Some may bash Bush for being a Christian, but at least through his religion he has morals. I'm not sure what Clinton is, but he needs to get his head in the right place.
And another thing about Clinton! He thought that Iraq had weapons as well. Just like Bush did, in fact, he backed Bush up on his claims! But he and Bush were misinformed by republicans AND democrats. Liberals and conservatives. If you don't know the difference between a liberal and democrat, don't even bother to read further nor respond to this post, because it's clear that you are just another pliant fool who goes with the flow, as one may say.
And about the war, there was no draft. Bush forced NOBODY to go into Iraq. The people who made sacrifices for their country signed up for the army, and they should have been aware that there may be consequences. Don't take that the wrong way though.
Anybody know how many people died in 9/11? How about Pearl Harbor? I forgot the exact numbers, but there were a lot more in 9/11. A LOT. And nobody seems to have a problem with World War II. War as a whole is bad, but Al Quaida has to be stopped. If you didn't loose a family member in the attack, don't you dare contradict me or anybody else who says so! 9/11 tore a nation apart, and guess who was there to bring it back together? George Bush. His approval rating shot sky-high. I bet most of you hypocrites voted for him too! You make me sick.
shubaduba: Really? Did you look that up? You're sick, and something tells me it's not true.

Um. Not all people who wear scarfs on their heads or pray to Allah or speak Arabic or Urdu are terrorists.

Stupiddddd.

As if we care about you anyway. 9/11 has NOTHING to do with this. It's not like we freaking planned it or anything. And Muslims are COOL. At least we weren't involved in SLAVERY and ABUSE TOWARDS AFRICANS AMERICANS.

What a nice history Christians have. And what's more, some of them just can't stop being stereotypical racists.
