Barack Hussein Obama, Can’t We Joke About Him?
Why is it I feel that, if I talk abotu Brack Obama, I'm gonna get slammed with comments and hatemail for being a racist or something along those lines? You know how hard it is to make a joke about a black person? Very hard. I can trash white folks, blondes, Jews, rednecks, doctors and [...]
Barack Hussein Obama, Can’t We Joke About Him?

I am a half-American, half-Japanese, born and raised in Japan. I am a senior at a private high-school in Kobe who is about to attend Columbia University. And no, I’m not rich; I cannot afford to get into college without a full scholarship.
Hmm … where to begin … First of all, I’d like to say that I respect the opinions of some of you on this page. Notice that I said ‘some’ and not ‘all’.
Most importantly, I would like to address a special message to our friend, Emily:
Not only are you brainwashed (most likely by your parents and generally ignorant environment) but you do a good job of presenting yourself as a stuck-up bitch. First of all, anyone with any common sense, regardless of them being a Republican or Democrat, should know by now that Bush wasn’t all that great — and he was clueless to say the least. No, that is not an opinion, it should be a given fact by now.
Oh yeah, and bias in the Liberal Media? Are you serious? How about bias in Fox News? Fox News is the quintessence of biased media. Both liberals and conservatives are biased, but certainly the ‘liberal media’ should not be the subject of focus if one is to be talking about biased media.
Also, it seems like you do not know the difference between ‘strong willed’ and ‘being a b*tch’. One is the showing of strong determination and the other is well, being someone like you. Sure, I’m not exactly respectful myself, but like the perhaps over-passionate person that I am – I am intolerant towards the intolerant.
It is pathetic to think that you are superior to anyone, let alone a whole population. Well, I know that you’re only 15, probably going through PMS, and has never gone outside of the United States in a ‘non-vacation environment’.
Unfortunately, that does not cut off in the real world. Seriously, how you presented that brief yet narrow-minded comment makes me lose faith in the American youth. I hope to God that you represent only a small minority of America’s future.
To Mr. Douglas: I will not comment on your personal beliefs; it is yours to keep, and rightly so. However, I do not think you should be encouraging Emily. If anything, you should be cautioning her, as a teacher and a seeker of knowledge, about her narrow-minded intolerance.
Sorry to everyone if this commented got triple posted, it doesn’t show up on my screen so ….
Zen you are one ignorent, stupid hide from the truth IDIOT. The Obama administration condems Bust for releasing two count them two detainies back to Yemen, it’s that devil Bush. While preparing to release hundreads back to the same country, if you can not see the douable standard, ignoring past mistakes (yes I am objective enough to see that Bush made mistakes how about you and Osbama) and a blind disregard for the safety of American citizens then you need to check yourself into a mental institute for some serious help. As to who is Brain Washed try looking in the mirror. If you have the courage to look at the facts you may be able to break out of the lie, but it sounds to me like you would be happy to put on a swastika if it had a picture of Obama on it. You reminde me of a well educated liberal I know that I ask how Obama was going to cut 1/2 a trillion dollarrs for elderly benifits, add 50 million people and improve services to the elderly and reduce the deficit. His answer was “Thats why we elected him we have other things to worry about.” Yea I bet thats what they said about Hitler and Stalen to.
Just would like to say Zen is a complete idiot who needs to shut up so he can stop making a complete fool of himself for the whole world to see.
All I know is Obama isn’t the Chosen One as those faithful thought he was, I feel sorry for people who are easily misled both on the Democratic and Republican party. I am a registered Republican but I certainly don’t believe everything they say. I saw a segment on the Late news last night that said while Switzerland has universal health care it cost a lot to maintain. Nobody is perfect.
yeaahhh my bad I misread the question. how embarassing :S i was a little bit drunk though so excuse the ranting.
okay here is the whole story so sit back shut up and listen:
this whole problem started with Bill Clinton. he completely messed up the economy towards the end of his term. then when Bush was elected everyone started blaming it on him.and 9/11 happened during his term and he did a whole bunch about it. but did Bill Clinton do anything when the World Trade Center exploded. NO! he did nothing. and he messed up the economy.the only thing bad about Bush is he needs to stand up 4 himself I just wanted to point that out. Anyway When Obama got elected he said he was going to stop the war. and for SAYING he was gonna stop the war he got the Noble Peace Prize. So remember say u are going to make world peace and u will get the award. and he didn’t do ANYTHING he said so far.
P.S. I’m a republican as u may have guessed
P.S.S. I’d like to say that Zen is an idiot and Kurt is smart
The most frightening part of this Obama mess is that no matter how many times he is documented in a lie, no mater who he associates with, no matter who he appoints it is never his fault.
Some interresting examples The seceratary of Education who supported the presedent of MAMBLA (man boy association which advocates sex between underaged boys and grown men), a Czar who is taped stating that he is a Marxist, a member of his staff that states that her favorite philosopher is Mao and we just let him rationalize it away.
He never heard Reverend Wright preach hatred or say “God Dam America” and Bill Aires(not sure of the spelling) who stated that he only regreted not doing more in the 60′s(he was in the weatherman underground and they set off bombs, robbed banks and killed people) and in their 20 odd years of “aquantance” Obama either did not know or did not care enough to dissacociate himself from him. To paraphrase that saintly man reverend Write “Not god bless Obama God Dam Obama”. GO AND VOTE, MAN PHONE BANKS, DO BLOCK WALKS AND IF YOU CAN DONATE. If we do not stop this we will loose this country to a focused smalll minority of monsters.
I appreciate the comment, I just know how easy it is to be brain washed I was ALMOST by hearing obama speak. I can say that this is not the way we need to run our country but then again in all honesty as I said earlier nobody is perfect. This country was suppose to be states rights but as we grew as a nation that shrunk. Gee imagine that.
Kurt you are right on. States rights have been stolen by the Republicans and the Democrats. Until now it has been slow erosion and just maybe the progressives, nothing slow about their changes, are what we need to wake up. Nancy said that civil unrest was a patriotic right. Of course that was when progressives were demonstrating against Bush and violently I should add. While their numbers were small we should follow her advice and their example. With a couple million route patriots.
@ Heidi. I have to say I am impressed at your reasoning and your intent. I think that you truly want what is best for this country, and I think that you really believe Obama is the man to do it. Kudos for being one of the few liberals who I have actually heard some substance from.
I do need to say this however. I was raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and as “middle America” as that may sound I had friends there from several racial backgrounds, some of them first generation Americans. I also have a bi-racial daughter, there isn’t an ounce of racism in me, I don’t care about people’s religious background, their race, their skin, it will never define who that person is.
I would like to point out however that there is not one single American who doesn’t have a family past of racial adversity, and yes, I’m saying everyone got mistreated at one time or another. Let’s recount WWII. First off, I cannot even begin to describe how horrendous what happened to our dear Jewish friends was. Aside from that atrocity however, do you remember the internment camps, and no, I’m not talking about concentration camps, I am talking about the places in our country where people of Japanese, Italian, and German decent were forced to reside after being ripped from their homes, having their businesses and homes seized by the government (they didn’t get those back) and were labeled a national threat just because of their cultural heritage. My question for you is, what would that be called if we did that to the Muslim population now? My guess is that a good 60-70 years later that wouldn’t be tolerated, but it was then. My mother is first generation Italian. My question to you is; “do you think I deserve reparations or special treatment?” Can I tell you my response? No, I don’t. It didn’t happen to me and my life is what I make of it. We are adding fuel to the racial divide by showing favoritism. When I was a new, scared, single mother, only five years ago I had to swallow my pride and walk into Job and Family Services, which was not easy for me considering I have always been so independent. The woman at the desk kept trying to get me to say I was Hispanic (I am a dark skinned Italian) and I knew what she was getting at. There are programs geared specially towards certain races and not others. I had to tell her at least three times that I wasn’t Hispanic for her to get the hint that I wasn’t about to lie to get favoritism. I got the absolute minimum assistance, as I also held a job all through my pregnancy and after, my alarm was set for work when I woke up at 2 am after my water broke. I need you to justify to me how this is fairness? I am proud of the fact that I work hard, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Isn’t it racist to assume African Americans and Hispanics aren’t capable of doing what a 4’11″ pregnant Italian can do? If I were them, and told that, I would be offended.
On another note, I certainly think Barack Obama has made an attempt at what he feels would be better for this country…..HOWEVER…..let’s question some of his logic. Someone’s oration abilities do not make them President material. One of the greatest orators in history was Adolf Hitler, and look where his speeches got this world!! Charisma and common sense are two different things, when you try to mimic a system that has failed over and over again (and yes, I’m speaking of Socialism) that doesn’t make someone a visionary, it makes them either seriously uninformed, or well, kinda stupid. Also, my counting may be off but he has been in office about a year now and we’ve already had four terrorist attempts on US soil, all can be connected to Al Quaida, and yet Obama doesn’t want to label these terrorist attacks. I say let’s quit kissing ass, and at the very least let people know we are not going to stand for another 9/11!! Yes, I am a conservative, and I don’t appreciate the prospect of my tax dollars going to fund abortions, which ultimately is a very real possibility. It is against my religious beliefs, but then again, I’m not a black atheist, so I’m just outta luck.
Savanah,
I feel that you are just angry because when you needed help you felt like no one helped you. You suffered so you want everyone to suffer, which is very sad. When I speak about minorities that includes you by the way. Blacks and Hispanics are not the only ones that benefit from the government and programs are targeted in helping minorities regardless of what specific race you belong to. Hispanics do not get special treatment, which I know for a fact, because my sister has two kids and she received the minimum. That statement was very ignorant. You speak about how hard you worked, yet you still got help. I think that’s kind of hypocritical of you. I have a conservative friend who held a job during her full pregnancy, never got ANY help, and has never once complained about it. It’s very amusing to me how you call the president stupid. Do you have any idea how to fix our economy? I don’t think so. Obama is not misinformed; he is simply trying to fix our economy with the help of economic experts and his advisors. Are you saying you have more knowledge than all of these professionals Obama is working with? He didn’t just wake up one morning and say I have an idea let’s go spend a bunch of money. About the terrorist attacks, Obama is working on making our country safer, but he’s not GOD. He can’t fix everything at once and I don’t think there is a living human being who can. About the abortions, if you want to impose your religious beliefs on someone you are obviously in the wrong country. Here we can believe what we want. Also, when you live in a country you have to pay your taxes because you are benefiting from everything the country has to offer, not so you can control where the money is spent. Last time I heard the government doesn’t tell us: well you guys pay your taxes, but you can only eat at McDonalds because we don’t like Burger King. Basically, just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it won’t happen. I don’t like the idea of abortion either, but those are my beliefs. Calling Obama a black atheist is another ignorant comment. Obama belongs to a christian church and has for years. Calling him a black atheist is not only a racist comment, but it further proves how much you are misinformed. Regardless of what people say, I have faith in our president and I know he will get us through this. To all the conservatives against Obama all I have to say is: Give the guy a chance to make a difference. He’s our president for GOD’s sake. You guys talk so bad about Obama sometimes I feel like this is a blog about how much we hate Al-Qaida. Aren’t we supposed to be on the same side?
Heidi,
You are another one of those lovely people just waiting to call someone a racist aren’t you? It seems to me that has been everyone’s defense who supports Obama. I don’t appreciate being called a racist because I believe he is an atheist, or because I referred to him as Black rather than African American, I believe that’s perfectly pc. Also, I don’t appreciate your obvious attempts to twist my words and insult me, if you bothered to notice I’ve not done that to you. I didn’t suffer, I worked hard like any other decent human being would, and I am proud of that. I don’t know what your friend did but two years away from getting my bachelor’s I was only able to get a minimum wage job. I never said I hated the president, I just am shocked that we elected a junior senator who no one even seemed to know about until he ran for office. I am shocked that we elected someone with such extremist viewpoints on how to change things. Sure, we need change, I believe we have for awhile, but change isn’t something you can pour a bunch of taxpayer money into and can make happen overnight. If you bothered to notice as well Heidi, I wasn’t trying to impart my religious beliefs on anyone, but I also don’t think it is right that my hard earned tax dollars go to fund something I don’t believe in, that I personally think is an atrocity. What about war? If someone doesn’t believe in war don’t you think they have the right to stand up and say, “you all can fund this if you believe in it but it is against my principals.” Let’s be real, obviously you have a very difficult time accepting the viewpoints of others because somehow they seem like a threat to you. I think it’s very poor logic to expect everyone to believe the way you do, and to call them a hateful word like a “racist” when they have a biracial daughter. In no way did I insult you or try to impart my beliefs on you, I was stating them. I do believe our president is an Atheist, and let’s get serious, NOT because he is black, that is ridiculous. I believe that someone who wants to fund third term abortion obviously believes that life and actions have no consequences, and that killing a child that would probably survive is okay as long as it’s the “mother’s choice”. I don’t believe any God in any religion would think that was right. Anyone can claim to be a religious person, anyone can go inside a building and sit for an hour, actions speak louder than words Heidi. If I shot a man on the street people would think I was a monster and I would be sent to prison, but to kill my own child, that’s okay because if he/she hasn’t poked their little head out yet it makes them less than human. Also, how is it hypocritical that I got help, did I say there was anything wrong with people receiving assistance? Last time I checked, nope. Yes, I get extremely angry at the fact that some DO get more help than others. The government is willing to pay more for schooling, housing, everything if you come from a “repressed minority”. Who is repressed in this country now? Last I checked we still have quotas that need met in companies and colleges for people of specific races. Heidi, can you honestly tell me that doesn’t make you mad? You don’t believe that that is furthering the racial divide? I certainly don’t agree with you, but I do think you’re fairly intelligent. Do you want to be a quota because you are Hispanic? My guess is that you would want to be appreciated on your own merits just like I do, not what background you came from. Let me put it to you this way, you are a person first before all else, science has proven that everyone’s DNA can be traced back to same woman in Africa. We were all cut from the same cloth so to speak. Now that we have established that, do you think that you deserve or need extra assistance in getting a job? Doesn’t the prospect of that offend you? It would offend me greatly. Isn’t your own mind, merit, and education enough? I am sick and tired of people pulling the race card when it comes to Obama, for heaven’s sake I am darker than him, get over it and think of a more intelligent rebuttle to an argument, maybe one not so assuming and hurtful. Not everyone is going to like Obama, he is a public figure and subject to scrutiny just like George W. Bush was and I can just imagine what you must have thought of him. You need to allow others to have their opinion without accusing them of either racism or elitism. It seems the only people who really care that he is black are the Liberals, hmmmm, who do you think is more racist? Any president has a lot to overcome, so unless you have never spoken out against someone higher in the ranks than you who you felt was making bad decisions, why don’t you read the statement you just wrote and add your own name as addressee.
Well well, I’ve stumbled on a whole gaggle of right winged nut jobs here haven’t I? The way you all scream outrage at this president while giving free pass to the last one is starting to make every point you make mute. The racist in this country are getting fewer in numbers but louder in their screams.
Savannah,
I actually don’t use the word racist freely. I just don’t understand why if you think our president is an atheist you have to include his race in your comment. You can him an atheist without the need of pointing out his racial background. Also, having a biracial daughter doesn’t exclude you from being racist automatically. I have not, in any way tried to insult you or twist your words. I have simply stated my thoughts on your comments. You say you have not insulted me, yet you have insulted me and everyone else who supports our president. By calling the president stupid you, not only challenge his intelligence, but the intelligence of his supporters as well. I am not saying you can not stand up for what you believe in, I simply saying that just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it won’t happen. The problem with making abortion illegal is that circumstances will arise where abortion may be needed, depending on how extreme your religious views are. For example read the article below:
http://www.lifenews.com/int1110.html
If abortion is made illegal then it might be impossible for someone to save their daughter’s life if something horrible like this happens to her. I am not a religious person, but I do believe in GOD and I don’t think GOD would want this little girl to die giving birth because she was raped. It’s very offensive to assume that just because your thoughts about abortion are not set in stone, you are an atheist. You criticize Betsy for the name calling yet you engage in the same exact thing. The way I think of the economy and the health crisis is like someone who has cancer and has never been treated. When they finally go see a doctor the cost of their treatment will be ridiculous. The economy and health insurance crisis are two cancers that have never been treated and will be expensive to fix. Yes I used to get angry when people used to push me into getting extra money for school, that I didn’t need, and things of that nature. Then, I realized that just because I don’t need it doesn’t mean everyone else doesn’t either. When I was discriminated against on the job was when I realized why these “quotas” existed. The funny thing about it is that I was discriminated against a Mexican woman who thought she was superior because she didn’t have any family in Mexico and all of her family lived in the US for over two generations. She was so racist that in her mind she believed she was white. The idea that I visit Puerto Rico and have family there for some reason made me less of a person in her eyes. Anyway, my point is that just because something doesn’t affect you doesn’t mean it isn’t needed. Rules are rules because at one point or another the government realized they were needed. I am not threatened by anyone’s thoughts I am simply stating my own. It seems like you don’t realize how your words are perceived by others. If you don’t want to be associated with racism then I would advise you to tone it down a little on the whole black thing. You can state your comments without pointing out someone’s racial background. I have never turned to belittling the person someone supports while in an argument, so that is why my statements are directly for you and not for me. Calling the president stupid is an ignorant and hurtful comment and no one will accept your views if you take that approach.
This is simply an unwinnable argument on both parts Heidi. In the same breath as telling me you don’t use the term racist freely, you called yet another person a racist. I’m sorry you have had to endure that, but guess what, so have I. I have been hated for being Roman Catholic (the KKK hates us) I have been discriminated against for my coloring, the shape of my nose, the texture of my hair, get over yourself, not everyone is going to like you, some people are stupid and think that they are superior for what reason I have no idea, I pass of those people as not worth my time or thought, and I suggest you do the same. Lets touch on the abortion subject a bit. Never once did I say it should be illegal, I bit my tongue on that, do I think it should, yes dear, it is murder. I do think however that my religious beliefs are being infringed upon when I am being forced to pay for something so heinous. Was it fair that Muhammad Ali was not made to go to war because of his pacifist Muslim beliefs? He was excluded because of his religious beliefs, what’s good for one is good for the other. I was forced out of my job and made to find another, which I did by the way, because I was pregnant from a man who happened to be black. I have been the direct target of that, and called names that would make your stomach curdle. If you happened to notice, and perhaps I should have explained it better, the last statement I made where I “need to tone it down on the black thing” was not out of racial bias, it was simply stating that from where I stand, I see the government catering to certain types of people, and not others. EVERYONE should be treated the same. Because of no other religious group, but those who simply don’t believe in any higher existence, they have wanted to take the very principals this country was made on out of the picture, including changing the Pledge of Allegience. So basically by saying the word God we are offending there belief in nothingness, that make a whole hell of a lot of sense don’t you think. Also, I have no problem with someone’s skin tone, that is just ridiculous and I resent anyone who does because THAT is ignorant. Sorry if you felt I put words too close together, but don’t sit there and tell me that some don’t get more consideration than others, it’s semantics and simply that, a racist statement is imparting that someone is of either lesser value or making an assumption about that person because of his/her racial background. It seems to me you don’t know what racism is. The fact that someone cannot say the word “black” because they aren’t black is kinda stupid, lord knows I’ve been called white, is that racist? Sorry you feel offended by my beliefs, but I guess that’s not going to change and no, I won’t tone it down. If people want to call me a racist when they have never even met me because of the way I misworded something, so be it, I know better and so does everyone who knows me. So, I have insulted you by calling Obama stupid? I said his way of going about things are stupid, and yes, I think he is pulling for a system that has no record of working. We learn from history, or we should. Sorry your delicate feeling were hurt because I think the president is less than capable of making an informed decision. When we meet I’ll buy you a ice cream cone, until then lets put our big girl panties on and quit whining that someone thinks the president is less than qualified. It’s childish, it’s ridiculous, and it’s commonplace for people to disagree. So I bid you good luck in all you do, you don’t believe how I do, that’s the beauty of this great nation, but please don’t try to censor my words because I have enough grace not to try to censor yours. I respect your beliefs, whether or not I think they are “right” or “informed” is another thing. I would hope you would have enough grace about you to respect mine. Thank you and have a nice day.
Savannah,
I was simply giving you some advice. I never said not to use the word black. I simply showed you why people who don’t know you might assume that you’re a racist. If that bothered you then I apologize as that was not my intent. I don’t use the word racist freely, the person whom I was referring to admitted to being a racist herself. You are obviously taking this discussion the wrong way. Everything I say is always based on facts, I love keeping myself informed and up to date. What I believe on the topics I read however, differ from what you believe. I am a person who loves heated debates. I like to understand the reasoning behind the way people think. I thought we were simply sharing our viewpoints, but it seems to me you are the one who has gotten your feelings hurt. Nonetheless, this conversation has turned sour, so good luck to you as well and if something I said bothered you I truly apologize.
lol @ big girl panties
No problem, my feeling aren’t hurt at all. Likewise for you dear. It is shocking if anything having lived the life I had to be called a racist, for sure. In my opinion I feel people have gotten so used to the concept of racism that one does need to be very careful of how they word things because people are all too assuming, and I think a lot of people feel that those who didn’t vote for Obama had some hang up on race. Some did, but for those of us who didn’t, many of us have been referred to as racist and that isn’t right. True story….my daughter’s great grandmother (Grandma Mary to me and her father) was very ill. She lived to see the day Obama took office. She died that evening after watching him take office. For all that she had been through in years far worse than ours, she lived to see that. I can understand the significance to many people, and unfortunately, the way our country has been and the way people have acted, it gave people hope because they needed it. I’m glad for those people who have received that hope. For me however, I see another politician with big plans, change is good, but extreme change can be scary to a lot of people. It scares me. More government control is frightening because although I have faith in our country, how can anyone expect one to have faith in our government after all it has done. Thank you as well, nice debate. Yeah, the big girl panties thing is classic, gotta love it. Peace
Savanah
Barack Obama is a lazy oaf who represents the other lazy oafs in this country who figure it is the job of the rest of us to support them. Obama hasn’t had a job that required a brain his entire life and now he thinks he is qualified to tell the rest of us what to do. We have a President that doesn’t have a clue about anything. As much as George Bush screwed up in his last two years trying to work with the Democrat no minds in Congress, yes, I kind of miss George, to answer the sign in Wyoming, Minnesota.
What I have observer is not conservatives using racial comments. It is the democrates pulling the race card everytime they want to distract us from the truth. It the politics of the left we are determined to stop. If that makes me a rciest then so be it.
go back to japan ZEN!
I’m from Suriname. Don’t know how but Suriname sure loves Obama. We don’t really know what’s going on out thier in the states. but almost every South-American country just loves him. It’s actually strange to see that people dislike him.
It’s easy for brainless people to love Obama. He’s as brainless as they are. Obama is a disaster for the country and probably the world.
Char let me explain it from a U.S position. We value our freedom above all else. We do not sell our freedom for food, or health care or anything else. In South America that is I understand a strange outlook. How else could Chaves become President for life? We believe in ourselves, if the government gets out of the way we prosper when it takes control our standard of living decreases. We have become the most pros pores nation in the world based on two simple principles: Freedom and free enterprise. In the words of two of our founding father “the government that governs least governs best” and “give me liberty or give me death”. None of them said give me health care or give me welfare.
Amen Caleb!!
Thanks Savanah
Char,
It’s because of politics. No one in America is forced to receive health care or welfare, so our freedom is not at stake like it was when Patrick Henry gave his speech. The democrats and republicans will always find some reason to hate eachother and there is nothing anyone can do to stop them.
wow… that joked sucked so much…. but the first of the 5 jokes was the best ^^
Heidi, just a couple of points: This bill would require the purchase of health care, it is true that you could choose not to use it, as long as you paid for it.
Second point: I will be required to help pay for other peoples health insurance.
Our basic difference is that I think you believe the federal govenment should have more control because they can do a better job, when I look at the programs they currently run most are a misserable failure. I believe in individual and state rights. Yes Heidi if your state wants this type of health care I say it is your right to have it, but it is not your right to make the rest of america pay for it.
Heidi
If you have ever Read the history of our Great Nation, you would see that it IS or was supposed to be founded on states rights. Our forefathers NEVER wanted big government.
Caleb,
I pay for many things I don’t like also. You’re not going to like everything your tax money goes to. That’s just life.
Kurt,
Actually, it was under the articles of confederation that we were under states rights. Under the constitution we have always had a strong federal government. Also, because of certain events like, Shay’s rebellion, is why the forefathers created a strong yet balanced federal government.
That would be the point of the whole debate though. We are citizens of this country, we are supposed to be the voice. Now with more government control we will have less say, and the executive and legislative branches will have more and more power. Not cool, whatever happened to a nation of the people, by the people and for the people? We’re at a standstill now where we cater to the people who, rather than look at the good of the nation and want what is best for everyone, to people who want what is best for themselves. Capitalism works, it’s a system where you reap what you sew. If you are motivated, go to school (which everyone can do with grants and loans) and/or work hard and climb your way just like everyone else who has made it, we create this free enterprise system where there is more competition between businesses, which creates more jobs, more money overall. When we take away that motivation and make things such as health insurance a right, we are destroying free enterprise and everything our economy has been built on. This isn’t the first time our economy has been in the dumpster, and it always comes back, it’s the natural order, like a pendulum that swings so far one way and then has to go back. Unfortunately, as many people who want to blame this person or that person for the way things are, we need to take a deep look at ourselves. People got greedy, lived well above their means, deep in debt, and weren’t able to pay for it. The person’s finances get ruined, if they had to file for bankruptcy then businesses lose out on their money, or if their property was foreclosed on. People want a quick fix, and I’m sorry, but there is no quick easy way out of it without further damage. Instant gratification has ruined our country. I mean come on, do your kids really need $100 dollar shoes? I have a friend ready to file for bankruptcy, and as much as I love her, I totally think it could have been avoided by living within her means. Imagine a crash diet to lose 20 lbs, it’s going to come right back on unless you change your way of life, same difference.
Savanah,
I agree with everything you said. I just am so angry with our health care system and I know something has to change. I, for one, have had health insurance for 4 years and have paid over $11,000 for having coverage. During these four years I have only went to the doctor for an annual check up and teeth cleaning. After thinking it over many times, I am finally deciding to drop my coverage. I am going to save my money in an account and be through with health insurance. Instead of paying some insurance company to rip me off, I’d rather drop my coverage and save my $55 a week on my own. I know it’s risky, but I feel like the insurance companies are screwing us over and I work hard for my money; I don’t just want to give it away.
Heidi,
Amen to that!! I totally understand as I no longer have coverage, and my medicines cost a pretty penny, it’s awfully frustrating. I always thought that they should put a cap on the amount they can charge for it. Actually, I think they need to seriously put a cap on medical expenses, they actually bill the insurance companies less than they do if you’re uninsured, because you know the insurance companies mostly negotiate more than anything, that’s where the real money is saved. They might charge $15,000 for an MRI, but say Anthem or whoever will only allow them to bill $900, and so then you pay 20 percent of that, so really the insurance hardly picked up anything. Medical care should be affordable. What’s with these $800 blood tests and $200 office visits for them to look at you and say, “oh, you have a sinus infection”. Hospitals and doctors aren’t what they were set out to be. They want to turn a profit like a business, then they should lower their prices and compete. I worked doing scheduling for seven orthopedists, and those people in the office are brutal!! It’s not about patient care, it’s about filling your schedule as full as possible, 5 minutes with the patient and then off to another. There was one older, more old fashioned doctor, and he took his time, and all these crazy women got on him. I personally had to quit, great pay, great benefits, but when someone is sick or hurt don’t treat them like you’re in the drive-thru window at McDonalds. I wonder if we had some doctors that would agree to that, the kind that really care about their fellow man, we could boycott everyone else, still get care, and maybe hammer down the prices. You have to think, those doctor’s write off so much each year because well meaning people can’t afford to pay it. That’s just another way greed is killing our country.
Heidi, everyting is a matter of balance. The differecnce between Stalens Sovied Union was not that the Russion people had no say it was how much say thay had. To argue that there is no difference between where Obama wants our nation to be and where the people of this countruy want it to be is about as logical as agruing that their would be no diference if we just tosed out the constitution and became a oligarci ruled by Obama, Polocie and Reed not just no Heidi but H… No.
Zen. Read Atlas Shrugged before you decide that you are fit to defend Obama. I am 15 and i read it and found it to be the most fascinating book. Every American should read it before they decide to be a Democrat or Republican. It is very hard to understand yet i was able too. So for people like Zen who are brainwashed liberals that think they are intelligent they may be a little confused by the fact that Capitalism is great and private enterprise is the greatest thing about America and why our economy is so superior to every other nation. As you can tell i do not want to explain why Conservative philosophy trumps liberal do-what-feels-nice philosophy. So simply read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.
Heidi
you speak as though there is a balance of power right now, but I am afraid to say it but as of right now there is NO balance and don’t blame it on bush, being that we are in the mess we are ,yes some of it was but I for one don’t want bigger government. The canadians have universal health care and my grand mother says her cousin waits 2 or 3 3 months to see a doctor for a cold or flu for example and I for one one don’t want big brother in everything.
Kurt,
Definitely the right idea! I don’t want the government to control everything we do, and I sure as heck don’t want to start with health care reform, Lord only knows what a mess that will be with Socialized health care. There are a lot of people out there frustrated. Take Heidi for example, she just said she agreed with what I posted, but she was being overcharged. Looking at that, there needs to be a change, but certainly not a government controlled system. We who oppose this health care bill need to come up with a reasonable alternative, one that will both stimulate the economy and keep big brother at more than an arms length. It would take a lot of people, and a lot of support, but there has to be a way to lower costs. The way I figure it (understanding that part of it pays for equipment) there is no way an MRI should cost what it does. We’re being literally raped by greedy executives, not doctors mind you, they don’t set the costs. We need to present an alternative, one that will benefit everyone. People have gotten so desperate they are willing to go socialist when they never would have done that before. The costs of everything have risen, there has to be a boycott or an alternative plan of some sort. We conservatives need to quit spending our time grumbling over Obama, and more time coming up with a favorable alternative that will save this country from socialism, and our citizens from destitution just because they have a chronic problem. We have always been a party of doers not talkers, so lets do and show them what we’re all about. I mean, c’mon people!! Let’s come up with something better, it shouldn’t be that hard considering the alternative (eeeek) and I for one don’t want to live in a Socialist country, but people are desperate. They are desperate for themselves, their children, their parents, and desperate people do desperate things. I say we start calling our republican leaders with alternatives and ideas, brainstorm people, let’s get our country back to what it was meant to be!! Go team!!
Caleb,
Some American actually do like where Obama is taking things. You can’t speak on behalf of America as a whole. I don’t agree on everything he does, but what two people think exactly alike?
Kurt,
I don’t blame presidents for the chaos that’s is going on with health care and the economy, that would be senseless. We as a people all have equal blame to share. What we are going to do next is what I care about.
Savanah,
I would never turn socailist EVER!!!! I do , however, want something to change. Not just for myself, but for the country as a whole. I have so many friends who go to a different country for treatment because it’s too expensive here. That is money that could be getting pumped into our economy. The reason why I am for the health care reform is because there are so many reasons why it is needed and like you said yourself the repulicans are not coming up with something better. I do not want every lazy person out there who doesn’t work to have free health insurance on our behalf, but for us working people shouldn’t we be able to afford it?
Heidi,
I agree, we need a change in the health care system, the cost is ridiculous. It really irks me how people are complaining about Obama’s bill, but not coming up with a better alternative, and there sure has to be one out there. I didn’t mean to call you a socialist, I just think some people are at the point of desperation. They’re sick, their kids and parents are sick, Obama comes along with this plan and promises, and this is going to be very hard to pan out since it hasn’t worked very well at all in the past. I am a Republican, and disappointed in my party right now, they need to quit complaining and start doing. We do need a change, we need some bit of a cap on heath care costs, something that will make it affordable for us hardworking people to be able to get treated. There has to be a better alternative out there. Instead of government funded health care, can’t their be some control over the costs, I mean what we pay out is ridiculous. My husband was doing his clinicals in a nursing home, and as much money that is pumped into people staying there, they were so understaffed, didn’t treat the patients with respect, and some even had bedsores, it was awful. Health care needs to be what it used to be, it used to be about healing, nursing used to be about caring, it used to be a humanitarian vocation. Now people got greedy and the costs are so high it unreal. For the democrats who don’t like the bill either, they need to get with the republicans and figure something out, I mean, we have to work together. I think it was Ben Franklin who said a house divided will not stand. We need action, and better ideas. What’s wrong with taking a deep look at health care costs, and seeing how much is reasonable to charge for certain visits and procedures? We don’t need government control, we need people to take a step back and be reasonable.
Savanah is expecting liberals to be reasonable. What a laugh. How strange it is that the more government has been meddling in the health care system for the last 30 years the costs have done nothing but increase. Somehow you expect a different result with more government meddling. Obama’s nightmare has nothing to do with actual health care, but a lot to do with control of your life. Good luck when you are old and sick and the government sees one easy way to cut costs, only you won’t be a part of it.
Why RJH, how kind of you to be so closed to the idea that OUR party has come up with NOTHING and perhaps if there were a better alternative, we could steer away from Obamunism. I hate the “health care plan” as much as you do, but are you disagreeing that we are getting raped by top executives in the pharmaceutical companies? And an FYI for you, I am a hard working middle class American, I have several severe health issues for a 27 year old, my immune system is KILLING my own body. Perhaps if you were someone with a health problem, in and out of doctor’s offices everyday, you would see that there needs to be a cap on what they charge. I have NEVER agreed with Obama’s health care plan, believe me, I know what he’s about. If you want people to stop supporting this kind of insanity, we NEED a better alternative. I’m not expecting Obama to be reasonable, not by a long shot, but his popularity is down big time, this is OUR chance to step in and save our country. I don’t want to just sit around and let this jerk ruin our country, but it seems you’re okay with it so long as it proves your point. Sorry, I’m not okay with it, we need to fight back. If you were out of work, would you sit around and complain or would you go apply for every job you could until you were employed? My brother went on the front lines in Iraq to defend America, and I’m sure you sport the “Support The Troops” signs, but you aren’t doing one thing unless you fight with your own time and talents to defend capitalism. I for one put my ideas out there, what are yours?
Savanah you make a lot of assumptions that you couldn’t possibly know anything about. Secondly, the Republicans at this point have no power to do anything in Congress . Don’t tell me they have no alternatives. They have been frozen out of the process. It seems as though you have bought into everything your liberal bosses from Washington have told you.
RJH,
Ok, I’ll bite. Why could I possibly know nothing about this? Exactly what assumptions am I making? How have all of the Republicans been frozen out? Do you know that there are Democrats that don’t agree with this bill, quite a few actually? Ok, tell me an alternative that they are pushing? I’ve not seen any. I watch Glenn Beck religiously, surely he would have a clue. I hear over and over about how this health care bill is wrong. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that, anyone whose taken western civ. know that socialized anything doesn’t work, shoot, anyone who’s taken elementary social studies can see that. I am not hearing enough “ok here is how we are going to combat this!” I have bought into nothing our supposed “liberal bosses” have told me, but I truly believe the only way we are going to persevere as a country is for both parties, especially those of like mind that this bill is B.S., to get together. John McCain said the same thing, so did George W. Bush. It wasn’t a popularity contest with them. If the democrats want to make it one, let them try, at this point they are a joke. Haven’t you noticed all of the opposition? We still have free speech at this point, why do you think it’s over a year into Obama’s presidency and he’s still on his soap box campaigning? He knows there are MANY people against him, he knows his “policies” are in danger, not to mention his popularity. He’s also learning that playing the black card isn’t going to work as there are many people from all walks of life, races and creeds that think he is the next Adolf Hitler or Stalin. Let us not also forget that although he ran under the Democrat’s ticket, Obama is no Democrat, he is a “Liberatarian” aka modern day Socialist. If you really think everything is being done to combat this, well…..okay, but I for one don’t, I think we need to try harder than simple opposition. If someone is breaking into your house are you going to try to explain to them why it is wrong and the pros and cons, and argue it until you’re blue in the face, or are you going the push the door the other way and block them, possibly ripping there hand off in the process and disabling them from ever trying again. Personally, I pick option B.
Savanah, If you want a cap on what doctors charge then I guess you’ll be happy with Obamas plan. Doctors are going to be government employees. That is the logical progression. I don’t see any mention of a cap on what lawyers charge. Who do you suppose will be public enemy number one for Democrats next. It’s already been insurance companies, oil companies, wall street, Republicans, people making over $250,000, people making over $150,000, people attending tea parties, gun owners, Christians, or in other words just about anyone in the country, at one time or another, except for Marxists , of course. Your assumptions are that if you don’t have a chronic disease you can’t possibly understand healthcare issues which is a bunch of crap. You assume that I don’t have health issues. Whether I do or don’t is nobody’s business but my own.
HELP! Do you not see that this is a communist take over!!! The constitution be damed, your civil rights be damed, the great one shall rule, and Obama shall be americas Chaves presidenti for life.
Or we the people will rise up and crush the tyrant, Opposititon to Tyrane is Obenicance to God. Just for reference that is a quote from a fonding father .
Just for reference Carl Marx was NOT A FOUNDINT FATHER.!!!!!
